How Do I Help a Drug Addicted Person?

Monday, November 9th, 2009
Drug addiction perhaps is the worst thing a person could do to his life. It does not only ruin his physical appearance, his psychological, emotional, financial and social well being. And the sad part here is that drug abuse and addiction does not classify, it affects men, women and children of all ages, races, cultures and socio-economic strata.

The trail to drug addiction begins with that first act of taking drugs the next thing you know your addicted to it! Over time, a person may need more of the drug to get the same effect. Drug seeking becomes compulsive, in large part as a result of the effects of prolonged drug use on brain functioning and, thus, on behaviour. Drug addiction makes drug use a compelling need, not a casual choice.

For the past years drug addicts were labelled as flawed people with weak moral characters who withdraw from life’s difficulties and pressures by getting high and disappearing into their own psychedelic worlds as an author said. But I would have to disapprove that drug addicts should be regarded as like that…I knew a lot of drug addicted people out there. Discrimination is not what they needed …help is what they really need in situations like that.

First thing you should do if you are suspecting a friend, a relative or a loved one as being drug addicted is to assess the signs and symptoms of drug abuse. Once you are sure that somebody is hooked with addictive drugs, never confront him directly. Explore his feelings, find out what’s going on with him…find out if he has problem or what. Emphasize the importance of getting help from a rehab centre. Drug rehab is available nowadays in a wide array of shapes and sizes, from very basic outpatient detox through fully immersive and involved rural retreats in beautiful locations. Some people naturally assume one is better than the other, or that the length and price of that stay should be key indicators of their effectiveness. In fact, the only true measure of a drug rehab treatment centre’s value is its success rate with addicts. Finding the best and most suitable drug rehab centre is a must. There’s nothing as great as being a help for someone who thinks he is helpless with his drug addiction.

Drug Addiction Problems at Hostel Set Up

Monday, May 4th, 2009
Barney Garcia asked:

Drug addiction issue has penetrated the interiors of every town in the world. Unfortunately enough, some places which were once considered as safe for the overall development of students and teenagers have become a breeding spot for the activities such as drug addiction. This includes educational institutions and hostels. Occasionally we have to migrate to other parts of the town or country to get access to better work places or education institutions. The wish to be progressive in life makes us to leave our relatives and friends. But do we, in actual practice, care for our own developments after we have left our hometown, is the question every drug addict should ask themselves.

The hostels are a boon for migrating students which also give privacy to those individuals who want to pursue higher studies. But once they are exposure to the external environment, people get carried away with the sense of independence and create problems for themselves and others.

In certain hostels attached to education institutions, students have none but their classmates to accompany them. Instead of taking this opportunity to study some teenagers get induced and resort to addictions like smoking and alcohol. Once the habit is cultivated they are prone to take other addictive drugs. Not everyone is able to adjust to newer place, eating habits and pattern of working. Some students do not fare well in studies which make them distance away from studious friends. They then try to vent their frustration by going for addiction and bad company.

People who have relocated to far off places in pursuit of jobs and are put up in hostel become depressed if they do not get the job of their choice. In addition, the stress of peer pressure, competition, promotion and odd working hours create a lot of turmoil within themselves. Such moments force persons with weaker resolutions into bad company who ultimately give in to addiction.

How to handle addiction in hostels

1.Parents should register their children in reputed institutes by first going through the credentials and inquiring about the vigil they keep.

2.Try to make inquiries about the room mate if your ward is sharing the room.

3.If our colleague is addicted, bring it to knowledge of the institution or organization so that rehabilitation process can be begun at the earliest.

4.Try to entertain and engross yourself in spare time so that you can overcome the temptation of addiction.

Whatever is your aim in life, try hard to face it rather than showing your back by resorting to drug addictions.
